Now that school is nearing we are wondering what kind of special traditions you do on the first day of school?

I know that I take a picture of my daughter and her best friend at the bus stop on the first day of school - not sure she is going to "go for it" again this year now that she is entering MIDDLE SCHOOL :). We also go get ice cream after school so she can have a treat and tell me all about her first day. I'm sure she hasn't grown out of THAT tradition yet!

Sara on our team takes the day off work and her neighborhood moms go out for coffee after all the kids get picked up by the bus.

Are there fun and special moments that your family does to celebrate the first day of school and a new year? We'd love to hear them!

I also take pictures of my boys.  I have three.  They show me (by holding up their fingers) what grade they will be going into.  I think my oldest will not be doing it this year, he is going into the 11th grade.  I will have to think of something else to do because it is our tradition.  Maybe I will have him hold a decorated sign.

Storm Our tradition for Back-to-School is usually take all the kids to school on the first day instead of riding the bus, and make sure a lot of pics are taken on the first day. Our daughter just started middle school so she was extremely nervous.

MY KIDS FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS EXCITING. THE NIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL WE ARE TO EXCITED TO EVEN GO TO BED EARLY Smile. MY KIDS ARE ALWAYS EXCITED TO MEET NEW PEOPLE AND MAKE LOTS OF FRIENDS BY THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. OUR TRADITION FOR THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL IS USUALLY IN THE MORNING TAKE THEM PICTURES AND SEND THEM TO FAMILY MEMBERS. THEN WHEN THEY GET HOME FOR DINNER WE GO OUT TO EAT AND TALK ABOUT HOW THEIR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL WAS AND WHAT GREAT NEW STUDENTS AND TEACHERS THEY HAVE MET. Wink

Our daughter just started secondary school at a teen boarding school. I am happy to know that she loves to be a part of the school. She's been asking me since last 2 years that she wanted to enter boarding school. I know there are lots of programs fitted for her interest. I toured her and have a familiarization of the campus and the dorm a week before the start of classes. We took pictures and get to know some staff and the surroundings.

I get up and get dressed and go to the elementary school and do patrol .  I have done this for the past few years ... the patrol teacher loves this !!  I am in a wheelchair so as long as it is not raining I get myself out there to help the kids get back into the swing of things .  The parents too since some of them have STILL not learned to use a crosswalk  :(  such a bad example for the kids !!  I enjoy this ... another benefit is I get to see parents and kids I do not get to see all summer long !!  YAY !!

Have a great year everyone !!!

We do the picture thing, too, although this year my oldest (started 7th grade) made a face at me when I told him I'd like a picture.  I also took the day off since my little one started Kindergarten.  I'm glad I did, as his teacher needed a helping hand.  I had a great time!
