Grown-ups love down time. Kids, not so much. What do you do to fend off the “I’m bored!” complaints from your children during spring break?

I try to entertain my children with things they like to do.  For example, my son is the oldest and I have two girls and they all LOVE going to the mall.  I set the rules, we have this amount to spend or sometimes we are not spending we are window shopping today.  They just love the idea of getting out of the house and hopefully running into a friend or so. I pull out the board games which are collecting dust so we can get back to the basics.  I also take advantage of renting movies and watching them as a FAMILY in one room.  I try to take them to museums on free days and fun places with no admission or set money to spend and let them burn off some energy.  We also go fishing, skating, to the playground/park, and eat somewhere cheap even if it is the dollar menu.  They get to take a friend or two sometimes.  My youngest and i bake creating all kinds of recipes. We have contests like who can finish the same crossword puzzle fastest.  We go to the library and they get to do go on the computer, borrow library books and catch up on their reading.  Lastly, if we do have money we take a mini vacation to New York where we have tons of family and they have tons of fun and I don't hear "I'm Bored." Big Smile I suggest to use spring break as a time to entertain the things you wanted to do, but there was no time to do.  Ask them what they would like to do and set the rules ahead so everyone will be happy.  Look around for local free events, walk and collect items, play hide n seek, create something in the kitchen, and if you can't be with them because of work etc. plan ahead.  Prepare a fun pack and change it daily so it keeps them wondering what's going to be it it tomorrow. Hope this helps.
