Jana :

First off ... welcome to the wonderful world of Box Tops !!!  Big Smile So glad to have you here . You must junp in with both feet & eyes wide open !!  Wink  You put up posters , talk to everybody and anybody about collecting Box Tops at ---------- school , where /who to bring them to when the kids get to school , what (if you know already) the money will be going for ... things like that .  The more "visual" you can be the better for the school !! Getting a contest going ( ie: which class can bing in the most BTs by ----- wins -----,  just fill in the blanks with the proper thing ) .  Stick out tongue  Wink

A word of advice ... next time you go to post your email address you need to fool the site .... XXXXX (at) XXXX (dot) XXXX  ... X X X X  @  X X X X  .  X X X X  , otherwise it does not put it on and no one will know what it is . Once you are here for awhile you will understand all the little quirks etc.

Hope to see you here for a long time !!

Hello Jana

Welcome to BoxTops.

1. If you are a coordinator, log-on to this site as one and go to "Program tools and resources". There is ton of info there.

2. Send out a BoxTops flyer. http://www.ptotoday.com/filesharing/category/39-box-tops-for-education

This web site has alot of examples.

3. If you have a local newspaper, call them to see if they would post something there. Our AV Press here in Lancaster, CA does it for us for FREE.

4. Talk to everyone in your PTA about BoxTops. Also let your friends and family know about it. My co-workers bring them in for me and my Mom in NY collects them for me too.

5. Your first turn-in date is 30 Oct. Good luck. Brian

I am not the coordinator for our school but I am trying to help the President of our Parents Club.  Come to find out the person that was the coordinator last year, never mailed in the box tops that we collected.  So we have to go back through everything ...and collect for this year.

Would you mind answering a few questions for us...while we struggle through trying to get someone set up as the coordinator?

  1. I know the box tops have to be clipped and bundled.  Do they have to be in baggies or can they be in sealed envelopes for each group?

  2. What happens if an expired coupon accidentally slips through?  Does that negate the entire batch?

  3. From what I saw, they have to be shipped, meaning  have a post mark by 10/30/10 or do they have to be to the destination by 10/30/10?

Thank you,

Wendy Jean

MY child has been saving all summer long and know that school is back n she has over 200 box tops. And I talk with her teacher and she has the kids bring them in know. I got a small gift for the student that brings in the most by the end of the year. It's only been a week but i got them all happy about it, they all want that book. And at the end off the year which every class has the most win a Ice cream party. The class last year got about 250 and we r already at 267. Just keep cliping.

Hi Jana, welcome to the world of collecting box tops. I found the easiest and fastest was the collection sheets. Last year was the first year I worked with collecting and the school turned in almost $900 worth. Not bad for the first year. I also made a simple goal chart for the kids to see the progress. It was a road with the box top bus getting to school and had the dollars along the side of the road. They were excited to see the bus move.

(Now my son is in middle school and we are trying to get that going. It is harder for middle school but right now we are at $100  and we are using a box top buck for collecting. Hopfully we will get more coming in. )

Print out the sheets from the website. or you can even make up your own with your school logo. During the PTO meetings you could also put out some of the items with bt so parents can have a visual of what to look for when they shop. It is alot different than reading the long list of items.

And last but not least, everyone you talk to tell them you are collecitng for the schol and also have an end of the year party for the entire school. ( ice pops, ice cream, popcorn) it doesn't have to be very much.

Good luck

Hello Wendy Jean

1. I would bag them in Zip Locks with a count of 50 BoxTops per bag.

2. You're not supposed to send in expired BoxTops. I'm not sure what they do if they find one in your shipment. Maybe just deduct the expired ones from your total.

3. Your shipment needs to be Postmarked by 30 Oct. Ship with a tracking label. DO NOT insure it. They are worthless paper until BoxTops gets them.

4. Use the BoxTops on-line shipping form because that also puts a BoxTops tracking # on it. You need to be a coordinator for this.

1.  I know the box tops have to be clipped and bundled.  Do they have to be in baggies or can they be in sealed envelopes for each group?

They do not have to be clipped to the nubbins.  Many coordinators do trim them very carefully, some even split the box top layer from the rest of the cardboard with an x-acto knife, but that's just for your convenience for ligter/less bulky shipping (cheaper).  You don't need to do that if you want to or don't have time right now.

2.  What happens if an expired coupon accidentally slips through?  Does that negate the entire batch?

My understanding is that one or two expired coupons will not negate the whole bunch, but you should use some care on the expiration dates and try to weed those out.  If there are a lot of expireds, they can definitely refuse your whole shipment.

3.  From what I saw, they have to be shipped, meaning  have a post mark by 10/30/10 or do they have to be to the destination by 10/30/10?

If you miss the date, the money will just go on the next check.  You won't lose the money either way.  It probably makes sense to send them in throughout the year instead of saving up for twice a year check time and getting caught in a huge rush with everyone else.  Plus, less chance of box tops expiring while you're waiting to mail.

Good luck!
