AS A COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECT, HEALTHY LEARNING ACADEMY IS PARTICIPATING IN THE ADOPT-A-SOLDIER PROGRAM.  THE STUDENTS HELPED HONOR  CPL. PHILLIP CLARK TWO YEARS AGO, AND I HAVE STAYED IN TOUCH WITH HIS MOTHER, TAMMY, SINCE THEN.  TAMMY HAS ADOPTED PHILLIP'S WHOLE PLATOON AND SUGGESTED THAT MAYBE OUR CHILDREN COULD WRITE THEM.  EACH CLASS HAS ADOPTED SEVERAL SOLDIERS.  TAMMY HAS PROVOIDED US WITH BEAUTIFUL SCRAP-BOOK TYPE POSTER OF EACH YOUNG MAN, COMPLETE WITH PHOTOS AND A SHORT BIOGRAPHY' TO HELP FAMILIARIZE THE CHILDREN  WITH THE PERSON THEY ARE WRITING TO.  WE ARE GOING TO TO BE SENDING CARE PACKAGES THROUGHTOUT THE YEAR AND HOPE EACH STUDENT CAN HELP PICK OUT ONE ITEM TO ADD TO HIS/HER SOLDIER'S PACKAGE.  THE STUDENTS ARE VERY EXCITED!  WE WILL BE MAILING THEIR CARE PACKAGES THIS WEEK!

Good for you!! I have a relative who is a Major in the Army and he says the soldiers really are touched by the letters children write to them.

My dad is in the Air Force going on twenty years. I remember what it was like to have him overseas in the midst of this during the holidays. My DoD's school at the time all pitched in and we sent over 300 holiday cards to not only his squad but to other kids' parents as well. I know what its like to organize something like that so if you need any help or ideas let me know.
