Our school is a 5th - 10th grade school and while you can entice the younger grades with ice cream sundae parties and extra recess time, those "prizes" don't mean much to the older students.  What kind of prizes can we offer for the older students in classroom contest?  The students wear uniforms and I had asked about letting the students have a dress down day by "paying 5 BTs", but the students behavior "changes" when they have on their street clothes so the principal always says no.  Any ideas what else may get them to participate?

Thanks

How about offering an i-tunes gift card or a gift card to teen store like American Eagle as a contest prize?  They could be for as little as $5 or $10.  I know my 14 year old would love to win one of those.  Or, maybe the teachers would be willing to offer homework passes.  If the student doesn't get their work done, they turn in a homework pass instead and get a break for that day.  My son has these in the 5th grade and it is a big deal to have one as back up just in case.

If you can use candy as an incentive, Jolly Ranchers or Starburst candy would work. I have coordinated a middle school (grades 6 - 8) and had pretty good participation. The teachers can really motivate their students if the prize is bragging rights or candy to share with the classroom. We had contests between homerooms with the winning class getting juice and doughnuts at the end of the year.

You could try front of the lunch line pass for those who turn in a specific number off bts.

I am the new coordinator for our middle school (grades 6-8).  We are offering the winning grade level an extended lunch this spring.  They will have an hour to eat and be outside.  The students really enjoy the extra time with their friends.

I coordinate for both elementary and middle school.  Gift cards always work for the older kids.  It has helped our collection in the middle school.  We have already reached $500 and that was our goal last year!

We are a middle school and just did a contest for a $15 iTunes gift card drawing and it brought in 2,500 box tops. Big Smile. For each 25 box tops submitted in ziploc baggies their names got put into the drawing. We did this in a months time and did really well. Next we are looking to do movie gift cards.

Hi, What were the value of the gift card prizes in the middle school that you coordinate? I am currently offering $15, $10 and $5 iTunes gift cards and the response seems to be less than enthusiastic. It has me concerned.
