I am the coordinator for my daughters school. It is a special needs school that has a total of 31 children. Costs are very high and we do not have a big budget. I am really trying hard to get the parents involved, but most are really not participating. I need some easy & fun ways to get the parents invovled. I am aware because of the size of our school, we will not make a lot. Do you think Target will give us a gift card? I have heard that they do that for some schools? If so, how do I go about getting one? Thanks so much for any help anyone can give me!

You should write your local Target a letter asking what you would like. If its a gift card, what amount, or if its reusable bags, etc. You can bring this to the Service Desk and the team member should be familiar with what to do. If they are not, ask someone else. Or have them ask their manager. They should give you a donation form that you need to fill out. It will basically ask what the same info that is in your letter but this is Target's form. You also need to know your school's tax ID number. They are unable to give money to organizations who are for profit. This form will then go to whoever is in charge of in store donations. They meet about once a month to allocate funds to those who have asked for it, they only have a certain amount per month. Please do not wait a week before you need the gift. That will probably be not enough time. They will call you (with the number you provided them on the form) if you have been chosen. Hope that helps!

You may be able to get donations from other businesses such as Walmart also.  Maybe some restaurants?  make an incentive for parents, students and staff to participate?  i have a copy of a donation if you would like a copy.  Email me at Laurie5411 at yahoo dot com.

Boxtop collection boxes can be put in local businesses, churches, etc. with their approval.  You'd be surprised how many will allow a box on their counter. You could even put a small description of the school.  Consistent patrons that currently do not contribute to a school (numerous people with grown children or no children) will find that they can make a difference for you just by clipping and bringing them to the box at the place they are going anyway.  It does take some work though to always make the rounds to empty those boxes.

Hey I know how you feel. Our school has only 39 students. I try to send home collection sheets once a month. Before the collection deadline I try to give an incentive to whoever brings the most in. Also got some great ideas from reading on this website. I also send home a letter to parents with a list of participating products once or twice a year as new ones are added.

Don't give up! Tell everyone to collect for you, including family & friends. It doesn't cost them anything to help you out but maybe a few seconds of their time. Hope that helps a little!
