I am the school coordinator and I noticed several box tops that just aren't like the others. I've been doing this for the last 5 years and they're different. Feel like regular paper, slightly thicker than the average copy paper and every single one is neatly trimmed, no ripped edges. It gives me the impression they were on a sheet of paper and then cut. I found them in about 2 different students' submissions and they are identical. The code in the upper corner of the pink part of the BT is BX9 or BFW and the expiration is 4/1/15. The border color around the outside of the BT is green. These were mixed in with genuine box tops and each submission was a large quantity of 200 or more. I think they may have purchased them online and didn't realize. Anyone familiar with these? Are they really fake? If not, what product do they come from?

The BX9 is from Boise ® X-9 ® Hi-Brite Multipurpose Paper and they do look funny but are okay.  The BFW might be from Boise® FIREWORX®* Colored Paper, but am not sure, you can call customer service to check what the code is, if it is a Boise product and looks simular to the BX9 it should be okay.

Thanks so much klynn73 for the quick reply. I feel so much better! I was really worried they were fake. I'm not familiar with the paper but so glad that you are.

I was sorting Box Tops last night also and had the same concern. I actually set one aside and oted what classroom they came from in case there was an issue later. They all seemed to be trimmed VERY neatly (unlike most of the others)! The paper had a slightly slippery feel and all had the same BX9 code with an exp of 4/1/15. I like the others posted, recieved a Large quantity of them and was worried there was something odd going on. I am glad I found this thread with an explination. thanks!

I got a couple that were white and felt like material from copy paper wrappers, but had no code to tell which product it came from.  Are these Boise Box Tops, as well?  Thanks.

Thank you for posting your message. I came across many of these tonight from several different students and was concerned. It was great that I could google my question and get my answer so quickly!! And I'm glad I can send in all those Box Tops!!!

Me too!  I got over 400 from one student and was a little skeptical - they are exactly the same as described above.  One person suggested I drop a couple of drops of water to make sure the ink doesn't bleed (if it does, it's not real)...thankfully, they didn't so yay!!

At the beinning of the school year I sent my 2 girls to school with over 700 box tops each. How do I get so many you ask? I am a couponer who is part of a message board who trades coupons I dont need for box tops. I trade each coupon for its face value so a coupon for 50 cents gives me 5 boxtops. I know several other moms do this too.

I am working for a printing company and we are using Boise paper. I sent about 400-500 BX9 box tops to our school. Hoping they read this post and don't think they are fake. Would a big waste of money and my time to go thru each ream of paper and cutting off before other employees had a chance.

I too, have just received about 500 of these boxtops with BX9 and an expiration date 4-1-15.  So according to this thread..they are not fake???

That's awesome beacuse I almost threw them away since they looked as if they were photocopied.

THANKS SO MUCH FOR POSTING!!!

I was cutting some of the BX9's and then wondered, "Why couldn't someone just copy these on paper on a color printer and send them in?  I'm not going to, but I don't see how the BOX TOP people would know if someone did.  You could fit a ton of them on one 8.5X11 sheet of paper and have way more.  I was just curious if there are any preventative measures in place.

Do you mind telling me what site you use? That sounds like an awesome idea.
